Medicine’s Michelangelo Lecture and Book Signing
UIC is honored to welcome Francine Netter to the Molecular Biology Research Building Auditorium on October 25th. Francine Netter is the daughter of Frank Netter, perhaps the most well-known medical illustrator of modern times. Francine is here to promote her new book, a biography of her father entitled Medicine’s Michelangelo: The Life and Art of Frank H. Netter MD.
Frank Netter attended medical school but decided instead to dedicate his life to creating medical illustrations. His work has been used to educate and instruct countless medical students and curious minds over the past 50 years. His beautiful illustrations have remained relevant and engaging long after their production, while his Atlas of Human Anatomy is currently the best-selling English-language anatomy atlas.
Medicine’s Michelangeo pulls from Francine’s own recollections of her father, as well as interviews with family, friends, colleagues and his own personal notes. Reader’s early reactions to the book have been effusive in their praise:
“A fascinating biography of one of the most accomplished medical illustrators of the modern era. Francine Netter, his daughter, has chronicled his interesting career and personal life in an enjoyable and eminently readable book.” …Arthur H. Rubenstein, MBBCH, Professor of Medicine, Raymond and Ruth Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
“A terrific and very personal biography. It was fascinating to read.” …Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, Professor & Chairman Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases
“Frank Netter’s biography is written with the detail, insight and affection that can only be provided by a family member and expresses the admiration of generations of clinicians taught–and to be taught–by Frank H. Netter, MD.” …Gary E. Friedlaender, MD, Wayne O. Southwick Professor and Chair Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Professor of Pathology, Yale University School of Medicine
The department of Biomedical Visualization, The College of Applied Health Sciences and the Library of Health Sciences are proud to host Francine for a lecture and book signing.
